Let’s Preserve Our Beautiful First Home

When we think of home, our first thoughts go to a structure that shared space of comfort, well-being, family. Our home is always in order! We make sure of its cleanliness, our best efforts to have everything in place, flowers abound, comfortable corners, windows that invite gazing out of and enjoying peaceful scenery. Our home is security!

That would be our first home! Or is it? What about Mother Earth, is she not our first home?

Rotary invites us to take care of our first home, a home that we share with 8.3 billion people worldwide. It’s not just being appreciative; it’s actively protecting all flora y fauna, our environment.

Today’s modern life fills us with contaminating aspects that make daily life easier: plastic containers, water bottles, straws, wrappers of all kinds. And these are just simple aspects; we take for granted chemical waste, dyes, scraps from productions, not necessarily visible items, but that form part of the building of our daily comfort.

Pollution has become sorely evident; on highway boundaries garbage piles up, and is swept away during rainstorms, to accumulate further along and becomes a mountain of waste, not only a visual assault, but a source of illness, contamination and focus of general hazards.

So, how do we avoid contamination? A complex question, with even more complex answers. First choice, education! Learn how to avoid, learn how to reuse, learn how to preserve. This is on our individual level; but what about industrial levels? Who oversees contamination at a macro stage? Of course, popular complaints bring the topic top of mind, but does the solution become evident?

This is a worldwide effort that includes all cultures, all people, all countries, and all businesses. Unless each and every one of us takes up the role of accepting responsibility for prevention, the situation will worsen.

So, what to do? Find alternative methods for our comfort; through conscientious purchasing of ecofriendly items, products and services, sending a message to all businesses that our planet comes first! As individuals, we should all make any kind of effort necessary to assure the security of our first home; if we as its caretakers and inhabitants do not do so, every day more contamination accumulates, and it will be impossible to have a pristine environment, not just for ourselves, but for all future generations!

Unite for good!
