Supporting education is one of Rotary’s causes, and the Rotary Club of Belize has a project in that area that will benefit hundreds of students and families from the country’s southern district, Toledo. The project’s value is estimated at a quarter of a million dollars.

Rotarian Alan Sternard of the Rotary Club of Port Moody, Vancouver, Canada, and other team members were happy to participate. In fact, they traveled to Belize to attend the formal events in the Toledo schools.

The project consisted of supporting 17 rural schools with the implementation of technology in the classroom. The schools received computers, printers, and digital learning programs. By bringing these resources to the schools, they expect to fast-track their literacy, science, and math.

The software used for teaching is called RACHEL, and it is approved by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. Each school received an estimated 20 Chromebooks. The teachers of the schools received the necessary training to use them with their students.

Some of the schools didn’t have internet or a steady power supply, so they also received assistance with solar power generators that can enable the system to work as intended.
